This is a real thing, that is, if you believe the latest attack ad put out by Rick Perry.
Perry TV Ad: I Can Defend Faith From Obama's "War on Religion": "I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school. As President, I'll end Obama's war on religion. And I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage," says Perry in the new ad titled "Strong."
I think the more appropriate nomenclature is Perry's war on common sense and facts. President Obama has always openly admitted to being a Christian, often talking about the role his personal faith has in his life. Kids can openly celebrate Christmas and pray in school, these things just can't be lead by state officials as that violates the Constitution that Perry claims to love and uphold.
This is not at all surprising, in fact it is rather amusing. What is sad, though, is that there are still people out there who will believe such nonsense. Since when do people (especially politicians) ever accurately represent their opponent's side?
